Course ID: IBU-SE>STMI
Course title: STRUCTURAL MECHANICS I
Semester: 4 / Spring
ECTS: 4
Lectures/Classes: 30 / 30 hours
Field of study: Civil Engineering
Study cycle: 1st cycle
Type of course: compulsory
Prerequisites:
Contact person: mgr inż. Filip Zakęś; filip.zakes@upwr.edu.pl
Short description: This course extends knowledge of modelling and computation of two dimensional statically determinate structures. Course is focused on influence lines and displacement determination.
Full description: Equilibrium equations; forces and moments in statically determinate structures. Principles and equation of virtual work. Influence lines in statically determinate beams, frames and trusses. Stress distribution in homogeneous structures with symmetrical cross section; deformation of structures; deflections in statically determinate structures by extension, bending and torsion.
Bibliography: 1. „Structural Mechanics” B. Shihua, G. Yaoquing
Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student understands the idea of structural modeling, assuming correct type of support and load Student understands the idea and purpose of influence lines for statically determinate structures. Student understands the term of translational and rotational displacement of structure. Skills Student can draw influence lines of support reactions and internal forces for statically determinate beam, frame and truss due to a unit force. Student can determine translational and rotational displacement of a structure due to an external load, temperature changes, fabrication errors and support subsidence. Student can determine flexibility and stiffness of a structure in selected place and direction. Social competences Student is aware of the importance of structural mechanics in practical design.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: grade obtained at classes (50%) + grade obtained at lectures (50%)
